How to hear your child say, "I love to practice!"
Start by praising your child. Every child wants to feel like he is doing something that is appreciated by someone else. Instead of criticizing about how long the child hasn't practiced or how he hasn't played a song very well, look for something to compliment! It may be praise for sitting up tall at the piano. All children of any age love praise. When you hear a positive melody, let them know. When you think that they have mastered a song with any degree of finesse, tell them. Give them the message that you are glad that they are trying. Give them the message that they are doing a great job. Praise them whenever you hear a piece that actually sounds the way that it should.

Lorgeland Music and Arts has been providing high quality instruction to the children, teens, and adults of San Diego's East County (Lakeside, Alpine, La Mesa, El Cajon) for two decades. Prior to moving to Lakeside, both John and Becky had been teaching professionaly since 1978. Their sons, Patrick and Gregory have added their teaching talents to the home studio. We offer a wide variety of classes and private lessons for students of every level and ambition. Beginners of all ages are welcome, as are more experienced musicians. We offer an enthusiastic environment to develop the individuality and self confidence in each student. At every level, we provide experienced professional teachers and quality music and art education in a pleasant environment. Over the years, we’ve developed a rich and always evolving curriculum of classes and lessons for aspiring musicians, music lovers, and artisans of all ages.

All lessons are taught from our home studio. In-your-home lessons are available for drums and guitar, depending on scheduling of studio lessons.

Since she teaches so many kids from Blossom Valley Elementary, she knows how to encourage the kids with just the right amount of "competition" among friends. My kids also look forward to the holidays when they can record their own holiday songs, and they love the summer camps.

Becky Lorge's depth of experience and knowledge in teaching piano allows her to teach the most novice to those who are seasoned. She taught my children for several years (ages 6 and 8 when they started) and even me (their mom) and we always enjoyed our lessons. She is patient and kind and highly capable.
